Australian Business Volunteers focuses on networking. We bring together business professionals to share ideas, mentor others, and pursue their aspirations. This event is a social gathering for alumni of prestigious business schools to connect. Liz Mackinlay, CEO of ABV will discuss how skilled volunteering could be the next step for you to give back your skills and share your wealth of experience. We will also use this opportunity to acknowledge alumnus John Edwards on receiving the Crandall Challenge from Wharton Graduate Emeritus Society.
Special thanks to Hamish Carlisle (WG'09) of Merlon Capital Partners for sponsoring the event and providing the location.
ABV offers a diverse range of opportunities rooted in locally-led development. When you volunteer with us, you can be sure that you are making a real impact. Whether it's in the Pacific in Samoa, PNG, or Fiji, or in Australia supporting communities affected by disasters, our programs provide a practical way to apply your knowledge.
Liz Mackinlay is a global strategist with local community at the forefront of her mind and work. Having grown up in regional Queensland, she's spent 30 years working in more than 80 countries in international, indigenous and community development in roles including CEO of Australian Doctors International and global head of strategy for World Vision.
In her current role as CEO of Australian Business Volunteers, Liz has implemented innovative new approaches to community-led recovery following the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires in NSW and Victoria. She has also grown ABV's corporate community business collaboration in the Pacific. She’s driven to facilitate radical collaboration between government, non-profit, corporate, academia, the private sector and an army of volunteers to ensure our communities a resilient future.
John Edwards (WG72) is the current Deputy Chair and a non-Executive Director of ABV. The Wharton Graduate Emeritus Society recently awarded John the 2024 Crandall Challenge Citation for services to the international Volunteering and Not-for-Profit Sectors. In recent weeks, five Wharton Graduates in Australia have already signed up with ABV for possible volunteering projects. John will introduce Liz Mackinlay, ABV’s CEO, to discuss the opportunity and rewards of skilled volunteering.
